A year after PixelOptics filed for bankruptcy, a Mitsui Chemical subsidiary is getting ready to relaunch what was once its lead product: the emPower electronic glasses.
Developed by PixelOptics and Panasonic Healthcare, the patented technology for the glasses allows the wearer to adjust the focus, thanks to liquid crystals. The technology was acquired at an auction held by Mitsui Chemical, a Japanese supplier of the high-index resin used to make the lenses.
Whole You, a new Mitsui subsidiary based in California, will try to re-launch an enhanced version of the emPower glasses. The company hopes to sell the eyewear through eyecare professionals.
