Roselle, IL – With great sadness, Modern Optical International announces the passing of its beloved Co-Founder and Chairman, Yale F. Weissman on September 18, 2016.
Yale was a dedicated family man whose entrepreneurial spirit and charm was well known in the optical industry. Born in Chicago in 1939, Yale honed his sales skills in his early years in various professions as he discovered an innate ability to authentically connect with people from all walks of life. He was introduced to the optical industry in the early 1970’s, and in 1974, Yale co-founded Modern Optical with then-partner Donald Ellefsen. With Yale leading the sales team, they built the company’s foundation in the value-oriented eyewear niche. Yale’s son Kenneth joined the company in 1991, and later became the company President while Yale transitioned to the role of Chairman. Together, the father-son team furthered Modern Optical’s presence in the optical industry expanding the sales force coast to coast and internationally. Throughout the company’s 42-year history, Modern Optical has remained true to its founding principles of providing quality, affordable eyewear while delivering the absolute best customer service.
Ken Weissman, President of Modern Optical International, reflects, “Our Modern Family is forever grateful for my father’s strong leadership, vision, and passion to create a company with purpose and integrity. Thank you to everyone for your compassion and support as we honor this remarkable man and his legacy we call Modern Optical. We will miss him dearly.”
