2017 CNIB National Youth Council Leadership Award Presented to Charlene Young

The CNIB National Youth Council recognizes Charlene Young of Saskatoon as the recipient of the first Youth Leadership Award.
Ms. Young has been a CNIB volunteer for the past 13 years. She has taken on many initiatives including:
Spokesperson for CNIB EmployAbility campaign
- Dinner coach for seven Dining in the Dark fund raising/awareness events
- Participant in the CNIB Champions program
- Member of the Barrier-Free Saskatchewan steering committee
“Charlene has injected a new dimension of understanding and accommodation for blind and partially-sighted persons in our workplace, and we are much better for it.” says her supervisor from the Saskatoon Police service.
Her commitment to breaking down attitudinal barriers and stigmas commonly held of persons who are blind speaks to her passion and dedication to bringing about positive change for persons living with sight loss.
