CooperVision Specialty EyeCare Launches OPO for Onefit MED and Onefit MED+ Scleral Lenses

CooperVision Specialty EyeCare announced the launch of Optimized Pupil Optics (OPO) for its Onefit™ MED and Onefit™ MED+ scleral contact lenses to eye care providers (ECPs) in the United States and Canada. The new high precision design option—which is supported by a user-friendly online fitting tool—enables ECPs to reposition the multifocal optics to align with the visual axis.
OPO lenses incorporate several markings, including a six o’clock dot indication to help patients orient the lens correctly on their eye, a circle of eight small dots at 6 mm to indicate the new center of the optics for pupil centration, plus toric hash marks notating the flat meridian as seen in other Onefit™ MED toric haptic designs.
“The shape of a patient’s sclera—paired with the tension of their eyelids—can often cause scleral lenses to decenter down and out. This moves the optics out of ideal alignment and impacts their quality of vision, including creating higher order aberrations for multifocal wearers,” said Justine Siergey, OD, FSLS, Manager of Professional Affairs – Irregular Cornea at CooperVision Specialty EyeCare. “With the new Optimized Pupil Optics’ design option, practitioners are able to dramatically improve the patient’s visual outcomes and their satisfaction.”
“Part of our role as an industry partner is to continually improve and build upon our broad portfolio of innovative scleral lens designs,” said Marie-Christine Blanchard, Global Lead, Irregular Cornea, CooperVision Specialty EyeCare. “Our commitment to supporting the increasing number of ECPs who fit specialty lenses starts by providing innovative technologies that address their patients’ evolving needs, and ultimately, grow their practice.”
