Founded in 1926 by P. Oliver Goldsmith, British eyewear maker Oliver Goldsmith is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.
In the early 1930s, Oliver Goldsmith revolutionized the eyewear industry by developing plastic frames, allowing for the use of colours and textures. Sunglasses later became true fashion accessories.
Grace Kelly, Michael Caine, Audrey Hepburn, Peter Sellers, Nancy Sinatra, Nina Simone, Ursula Andress… These celebrities all wore Oliver Goldsmith glasses, which were also popular in fashion shows like Givenchy, Dior and Vidal Sassoon.
After a difficult period in the 1980s, the label was brilliantly relaunched in the early 2000s by Claire Goldsmith, the founder’s great-granddaughter, who also creates frames under her own name.
