Transitions Cancels Transitions Academy 2021

Transitions Optical has decided to cancel Transitions Academy 2021, scheduled for June 13 – 16, 2021 in Orlando, Fla. In lieu of Transitions Academy 2021, Transitions Optical will continue to connect with and support the optical industry through virtual events like Transitions® The Pulse – which brought together over 10,000 global attendees – and its Innovation Awards, virtual education and customized training events.

Transitions Academy is one of the industry’s most well-recognized educational events, bringing together independent eyecare professionals, national and regional retailers, educators, optical laboratories, managed vision care companies, and other industry professionals from across North America and around the globe. Transitions Optical looks forward to connecting and celebrating with global attendees once again in 2022, which will mark its 25th Transitions Academy event scheduled to take place from January 16 – 19, 2022 in Orlando, Fla.

“Transitions Academy is known for its ability to deliver a remarkable, live experience that connects all of those in attendance,” said Patience Cook, director North America marketing, Transitions Optical. “The decision to cancel this year’s event was made to ensure the safety of all of our attendees that join us from around the world to experience that social connectedness. We remain committed to the global eyecare community and will support the optical industry through other activations in the spirit of Transitions Academy. We look forward to making Transitions Academy 2022 an unforgettable experience, in a safe manner for our North America and global attendees.”

Though Transitions Academy 2021 is no longer taking place, the 6th annual Transitions Innovation Awards will still be recognized this year. Nominations for the 2020 Transitions Innovation Awards are open through April 30, 2021 at Transitions PRO. The finalists and winners will be announced this year, with a special recognition taking place at Transitions Academy 2022.

Eyewear styles include both bold colours and sorbet pastel tones. Oversized and understated casual designs, give us options and the freedom to style wardrobes of eyewear.

Here are the top three Fashion trends and the eyewear trends to accessorize the total look.

ba&sh’s BA 1032 was Nominated at SILMO d’Or 2020 for Fashion Trends

The BA 1032 is a rounded acetate frame with an extra flat lug. The delicacy of the front softens this strong shape, sublimated by a nude havana with a clear and luminous marbled appearance. The style features a thin tubular temple made of two materials, the engraved logo on the metal temple’s side and on the acetate temple tips. Both temple ends are embellished with a subtle diamond-shaped engraved aged metal piece with ethno-chic inspirations, that the brand loves so much.

CooperVision, OGS, and Special Olympics Partner to Enhance Eye Care for People with Intellectual Disabilities

CooperVision, Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) and Special Olympics have come together to support the Special Olympics Lions Clubs International Foundation Opening Eyes® program, which aims to strengthen vision care inclusion for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The organizations have committed $300,000 through 2023 to provide Special Olympics athletes with high-quality vision and eye health screenings, prescription eyewear and sports goggles, while also providing improved education and training for eye care professionals (ECPs) and optometry students so they are better able to meet the unique needs of this marginalized group.

“Our athletes suffer some of the lowest access to vision care of any population globally,” said Dr. Alicia Bazzano, Chief Health Officer, Special Olympics. “Globally, 35% of our Special Olympics athletes need new prescription glasses and 23% have never even had an eye exam. Together with CooperVision and Optometry Giving Sight, we are able to continue to bring the benefits of Opening Eyes around the world and help close the gap to access to vision care for people with intellectual disabilities.”

Now present in over 90 nations, the Special Olympics Lions Clubs International Foundation Opening Eyes® program has helped strengthen national health systems while creating increased access to care for individuals with intellectual disabilities, one of the most socially isolated, at-risk population subsets. Since its founding, Opening Eyes has conducted over 430,000 screenings and provided over 259,000 prescription eyeglasses and sport goggles to Special Olympics athletes around the world. The program has also offered practical training opportunities for over 50,000 ECPs and students.

The sponsorship dollars will be used to promote vision care inclusion as part of Special Olympics programming in Kenya, starting in 2021, and in the United States in 2022. As part of the partnership focus, the financial and technical support offered by CooperVision and Optometry Giving Sight will enable vision screenings, training for ECPs and resources for athletes.

In the United States, the partnership will bring the power of the Opening Eyes program to the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, Florida, making high-quality vision care a reality for over 2,000 athletes, while delivering clinical training for inclusive vision care to at least 50 ECPs, while supporting additional volunteer opportunities as part of the Opening Eyes program.
