Fighting Blindness Canada Urges Canadians with Diabetes to Stay on Top of Their Regular Eye Exams

November is Diabetes Awareness Month. Of the estimated three million Canadians who live with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, more than 500,000 live with diabetic retinopathy – a blinding eye disease that is the leading cause of sight loss in working age Canadians.

“Twenty years following diagnosis, nearly 100% of individuals with Type 1 and 80% of individuals with Type 2 diabetes experience some level of diabetic retinopathy, leading to blindness if left untreated,” explains Doug Earle, President and CEO of Fighting Blindness Canada. “While these numbers are alarming, early detection and timely treatment of this eye disease can reduce the risk of blindness by up to 95%. That’s why it’s absolutely vital that Canadians with diabetes book regular eye exams.”

Currently, 40%  of Canadians diagnosed with diabetes do not get their eyes checked on a regular basis.

For Diabetes Awareness Month and World Diabetes Day on November 14, 2020, Fighting Blindness Canada has three initiatives to help inform and raise awareness of diabetes and vision loss:

Transitions Announces “Share Your Fall Style” Promotion in Canada

To commemorate Transitions Optical’s 30th Anniversary, Transitions Optical in Canada will launch a new promotion, ‘Share Your Fall Style’ for the month of November. The contest will encourage optical industry professionals to share photos of themselves pairing their activated Transitions® lenses with their favourite Fall fashions. The contest will run for the 30 days of November (Nov. 1 – Nov. 30) and participants will be entered each time they post a photo to Transitions Optical’s Canada PRO Facebook page. For each photo shared (up to 30 total), the participant receives one entry in the contest to win a $1,000 Fall style gift card.

“It’s been a challenging year for everyone, yet we still can find joy in everyday moments – like a favourite outfit or pair of glasses,” said Arnaud Rajchenbach, marketing manager, Transitions Optical in Canada. “The ‘Share Your Fall Style’ promotion allows us to recognize the creativity of our industry partners and friends,  share our love for fall fashion, and celebrate the many style options of Transitions lenses.”

Safilo North America Focuses on BOSS Eyewear and HUGO Eyewear for Next Safilo LIVE Virtual Event

Safilo North America announces its next SAFILO LIVE virtual event entitled SAFILO LIVE Men’s Spotlight: BOSS Eyewear/HUGO Eyewear. The new 45-minute program, focusing on Safilo’s BOSS Eyewear and HUGO Eyewear men’s collections, will premiere on Wednesday, November 4th at 6pm EDT, with 24/7 viewing access for one full week after the initial air date.  

This is the company’s third installment of SAFILO LIVE, Safilo’s new online channel offering innovative virtual programming to its customers across the U.S., and Canada. This month’s program can be viewed live or watched in “on demand” mode through Wednesday, November 11th at 9pm ET.

Formatted like a home shopping program, the episode will feature a Safilo host who will provide informative brand and product content, a live model to showcase the eyewear, as well as a live Q&A session to answer viewer questions.
