Dr. Matthias Metz at the helm of Carl Zeiss Vision

As of July 1, 2015, Dr. Matthias Metz will step into the new position created on the executive board of directors at Carl Zeiss AG and will become President and CEO of Carl Zeiss Vision International.

The new executive board member will be responsible for Vision Care and Consumer Optics business groups. This underscores Carl Zeiss AG’s goal to adopt a portfolio approach, using market segmentation.

Dr. Metz has up to now held the position of  chief sales and marketing officer at Fackelmann, a supplier of household, kitchen and bathroom goods. Carl Zeiss executives believe this experience is valuable for their objective to strengthen their consumer-oriented product sales.

J.F.Rey Releases Full of Fineness Frames

The new Full of Fineness collection is the consummation of J.F. Rey’s acetate innovations. Their mastery of the drying processes used for acetate have resulted in the creation of extraordinarily, fine acetate sheets. The result, fine, lightweight, comfortable and elegant frames in a beautiful range of colours and patterns. Essilor Canada Names Pierre Bertrand as New President

Further to our report last week, Essilor Canada announced the appointment of Pierre Bertrand as President of Essilor Canada – effective February 1st, 2015. Mr. Bertrand joined Essilor in USA in 2011 and is currently the VP, Marketing.

Mr. Bertrand will be responsible for the development and deployment of the business growth strategy and profitability of Essilor Canada, reporting to Mr. Tersigni.

Mr. Bertrand is a graduate of Concordia (Economics), and holds an MBA from University of Windsor in finance and strategy. He held several positions at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in both finance and marketing prior to joining Essilor.

The change sees Marc Tersigni in the role of CSO – Country Strategic Officer, responsible for developing and implementing Essilor’s Canadian growth strategy.

Slight Growth in Canada’s Optical Industry

From 2009 to 2014, the Canadian optical industry reported an average annual growth of 0.6%, including a 0.2% rise in 2014, according to IBISWorld.

The trend should continue over the next five years, the firm says. Canada’s industry revenue is expected to grow to CAN$1.9 billion. In 2014, contact lenses made up 28.7% of total revenue, with frames accounting for 32.4%.

A number of factors contribute to this growth:

  • The ageing population increases the number of visits to optometrists;
  • Consumers think of their frame as a fashion accessory, which means shorter replacement cycles and a rise in the sales of luxury frames;
  • Provincial regulations make life more difficult for online eyewear retailers and protect the market share of opticians and optometrists (everywhere but in British Columbia).

Casting a square-shaped silhouette, Madre Tierra Leather sunglasses have an acetate structure entirely covered by genuine, matte black leather and are finished off with unique hand-stitched details and metal inserts.

Madre Tierra Pixel’s black acetate contrasts with the brand Marcelo Burlon County of Milan’s exclusive signature pattern, a white-gradient, pixel texture.

Madre Tierra All Black combines a classic square front with the fresh and stylish twist of a metallic clip-on to create a modern double-bridge structure. Its shiny profiles embrace bold, gold lenses that stand out on the black acetate frames. Metal details, such as the iconic logo of the brand, adorn the temples and the front.
